DROUGHT AFFECTS PIG TRADE
The lack of dairy by_product g and failure of root crops as a result of the abnormally dry season has mad'j the position in the Wellington Province very serious from the pig farmer's point of view. Hundreds of pigs Avhich would normally have reached the slaughterhouse as liglw haconers will do well if they arrive a* light pork.. A number of (farmers who make it their business to cater for the weaner market have been reluctant to accept the few shillings offered for their stock, and as fln alternative have been advised to feed heavily on meals with the object of easting the pigs as light pork. Thereis not likely to be a big margin of profit- on the meal, but it is a question of making the best of a ' ja d job.
