NIGHT TRAINING

LIGHTING WHAKATANE DOMAIN INVESTIGATION O,F COST | The proposal to floodlight the Domain for night rugby training was brought before the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union executive at its meeting on Friday night by the delegates of the Whakatane Club. Mr J. Connolly said at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Club the matter was discussed.. He thought the Old Boys and Star Clubs would probably with the Whakatane Club in sharing the cost and it was hoped that the sub.union which could use the ground for rep. training would bear a proportion of the cost. Other sports bodies might Join in. Mr Ormond said lh? lights had proved very useful in the past. Mr Henderson said that he would suggest that the 3 clubs bear the cost and if reps, used the ground a levy could be made on the union. junior Draining Mr Webb said the Star and Old Boys t'ams had engaged the Winter Show Building for training purposes. He said the Domain was in a rough j state and in his opinion the clubs and sports bodies would have to org- | anise to raise money to do wMU they wanted on the Domain. Mr Connolly sa.id that practice inside a hall was of little use for representatives. Outside work was essential.. There was some discuss'on on the extent to which it would be possible to floodlight the Domain. It was pointed out that the Athletic Club, though they would probably be in, teresteel, would require the whole running track to be lit. Mr Henderson said that if the Whaaktane Club went on with 'the idea it would be only fair for l ho sub-union to share the cost if the iepresentatives used the Domain. It was decided that the Whakatane Club should go into "the matter further and lay an estimate of cost before the next meeting, Mr Ormond undertaking to make inquiries., Mr White said that it was wrong to look at nothing but the first cost. It would be a great asset. Mr Rangi agreed that the idea was a good one. Even though Wha_ katane would get the main benefit, and perhaps win the champioaship through it, Ruatoki would be pleas, ed to do what they coukl. It would be of benefit to Ruatoki because if Whakatane Avas highly trained and fit, Ruatoki would have to train hard to be fit to meet them.
