BOROUGH FOREMAN'S REPORT
The borough foreman, Mr W. S. Henderson, in his report to the council at its meeting on Monday night stated that Soutar's Avenue has been continually watered and rolled and well consolidated. A prime coat of cut back bitumen was sprayed on and it received an application of heavy road oil and metal chips. The intersections at either end had yet to be excavated and refilled with metal. The sealing of intersections will not be undertaken until next J spring. Concrete footpaths both sides of street are completed and con crete pedestrian and car ramps have been set in at entrances to each property. The Strand intersection was sealed with a two coat application. Waiiuii Hillcrest: Reconstruction and widening to extent of finance! made available has been carried out, culverts relaid arid extended, crushed maintenance metal and fines cart ed and spread. ' Road opposite the! wharf has been raised to the grade of the sealed surface with metal filling from Hillcrest. At the request of the Harbour Board the filling wag extended to the wharf shed. Commerce Street South: The east side of existing bitumen surface from Short Street to Goulstone road has been excavated, remetalled and sealed to an average extra width of three feet. A 12 chain drain has been dug to carry the water clear of the bitumen edges. This water has caused excessive damage to bitu. men sides in the past. Portion, of Stewart Street between the' hospital gates has been resealed. Maraetotara, Apanui and subsidiary drains: A small gang is at work trimming and cleaning these drains. Extensive repairs are necessary to several flood gates. The spray plant complete Was hired to the Highways Department for several daj's. Water Supply: Two new connections hai'e been made and blow-outs repaired. Replacement of further stopcocks has been necessary. The (Continued at foot of next column).
