I o REFUSES CHEQUE FROM BAY UNION An item of £10 for an unpresented cheque shown in the balance sheet of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union led to the statement by Mr W. S. Henderson, secretary, that the sum represented a grant to Mr W. J. (Billy) Wallace, famous ex.All Black who acted as co-manager during the southern tour of the Bay team. Mr Henderson said the cheque was sent back to him once and tha,t he had returned it to Mr Wallace. Apparently it would never be presented as Mr Wallace had stated that he had no wish for any payment for his services. It was later decided that the delegates to the annual meeting of the N.Z.R. U. be instructed to purchase a suitable memento up to the value of £10 and present it to Mr Wallace. This suggestion was made by Mr A. S. Ta,uranga..
