YOUNG CORNETIST
FURTHER HONOUR FOR LEN BROADMORE As most Whakatane people know. j Len Broadmore, the young cornel; player son of Mr and Mrs E« Broadmore, won the under 17 solo at the New Zealand Brass Bands Association, contest at Hamilton over Easter. The judge, Mr R. J. Estall, gave the lad 96 points made up of 25 for tone 24 for tune, 24 for technique and 23 for artistry. The tone was fine and robust and rich, in quality, said Mr. Estall. The cadenza, was remarkably well played, arid the andante was very fine indeed, though sometimes a little spasmodic, but Mr Estall said that he did enjoy the entrant's tone.
which was grand. The theme was splendidly played and the first variation clear, precise and very true. The second variation was excellently played, except that tha last note (top G) was stftl missing. The final cadenza was good, and the finale very clear, neat, precise and correct. <f A really remarkable performance for one so young" 7 said Mr Estali. "Your tone is full and rich, in fact it equals or is better than some of our greatest players in the history of New Zealand cornet players. You have my congratulations."
