GOODWILL MESSAGES

SUCCESS TO THE BEACON We take the greatest heart from the following goodwill messages received from A. G. Hultquist Esq ; M.P. for Bay of Plenty, His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, and the County Chairman, Mr J. G- Cliff McCulloch. I desire to take this opportunity of congratulating you on your enterprise in commencing the publication of "The Bay of Plenty Beacon'' in the Whakatane County. It is an accepted fact that a newspaper can and does play an important part in the progress of a town and district. For some time we have felt that the absence of a paper containing local news has been a severe setback in the progress we desire to see continue. I think your company's decision to publish thrice weekly and to feature news of local interest is one worthy of the highest praise, best wishes and practical support of the whole community. I wish your paper the success it deserves. May it live long and be the power for good that it should be. I am Yours sincerely, , A. G. HULTQUIST. EsSi.:—«—— | On behalf of the citizens of Whakatane I welcome the BAY OF PLENTY BEACON to Whakatane and 1 wish it every success. The last few months when we have been without a local paper have clearly demonstrated the need of a newspaper to feature local news. A local newspaper can be of the greatest assistance in the progress of a town and district. In a progressive district such as Whakatane a local newspaper is essential and with energetic management prospects of success for the BEACON/must be very bright. I would ask the people of Whakatane and the surrounding district to give the new venture their fullest support so that it can give its best service in the interests not only of the business community but of the public generally. With the support of the public the BEACON should become an important factor in the future progress and success of the district. On behalf of the people of Whakatane and as a private citizen 1 I wish the BEACON every success. B. S. BARRY, Mayor of Whakatane. It is pleasing to le-arn that the residents of Whakatane county and borough are again to be furnished with a journal which will give them the news of the day. The lapse in this direction has been felt by us all, and we all sincerely wish the new journal success, and trust that it may continue toi furnish —ajs in the past the Bay of Plenty Press did —a medium which carried !the news of the day and itejns of interest to our whole district. Speaking for the ratepayers of the Whakatane County I feel sure that in these remarks I endorse all their sentiments. J. G. CLIFF McCULLOCH, Chairman, Whakatane County Council.
