Saturday, October 28, 1876.
The reply of the Premier to Mr Sheehan, " That the action of the Government was impeded in consequence of the 'eagerness of Europeans- to obtain possession of the district" was, on his own admission, coined by the Native Office. "We thought so, and stated our opinion that such would prove to be the case in last issue, "when writing on the matter. The remarks of the Premier, regretting having accused Tauranga settlers, Sfe. y are noteworthy. "We have not space to-day to enter at length on the replies of the Government to Mr Sheehan, nor on the remarks ,Mr Commissioner Brabant thought fit to embody in his telegram to the Government on the attitude of the Kaimai Committee. A full report of the proceedings of the Kaimai Comjnittee during the last few days, appears in another column, and speaks for itself. - Last evening, the ; members of the . Comaiitfcee interviewed Captain Morris, M.H.R., by appointment, but the result of the interview has not yet transpired. It is pleasing to find the Committee still determined, and public feeling strong with them. Patience and perseverance i^stT accomplish in the long run. V s
