A CORRECTION.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib, — In your issue of Wednesday the 23rd ulto. you refer to tho burning down of tbe Post Office and Provincial Government Buildings in fcbia City during the time Mr Aeher Asher was Superintendent of tbe City' Fire Brigade. You tben give an extract from Mansard, August 15th 1873 :— That Mr Williamson asked the Premier, . . . . . "He explained that two brigades existed in Auckland, Mr Hughes being in command of one." . . . i Permit me to say that at

the time those buildings were burnt I was in Otago, my connection with the Auckland Fue Brigade commencing in August 1874, and therefore Mr Williamson could not have said, " Mr Hughes being in command of one." By giving this a place in your next issue you will oblige. — I am &c.j v JOHN HUGHES. Superintendent* Auckland Firo Brigade Fire Brigade Station, Auckland, 1876.
