District North of Auckland.
In the House on Tuesday night, the second reading of the Counties Bill was carried on the voices. Wednesday afternoon was occupied discus 1 sing Mr Sheehan's motion that the district North of Auckland was entitled on all grounds to more attention to its wants aiut a larger share of the revenue. Sir Robert Douglas shewed that the district in question was, in area and other respects of more importance than some of the smaller Provinces. During the evening, several Bills advanced a stage without discussion. . Mr Woolcock's motion that the mining in* dustry of the colony shonld be relieved from the present exceptional taxes. Agreed to. Mr Bryce moved the second reading of the Endowed School Bill. The discussion on which lasted the whole of the sitting, but was of no general importance. Mr Brown's Eating Bill has just oommencei in Committee. Yesterday, a caucus of OfcagO members wbb convened by Mr Reid, to consider the ques< tion of the County Boundaries. Mr Reid seemed favorable to dividing the Province into two counties. Mr Macandrew thought it should be a single county, and have a Board of Works. Mr Hodgkinaon opposed the counties altogether. Mr Pyke and some others wanted five counties, and there was another party favor* able to three counties. Ultimately the supporters of five offered to agree to four, but the meeting broke up without any definite arrangement being arrived at.
