Mr Brabant, the Inspector of Native Schools in the Bay of Plenty district, visited the Whareroa school on Friday afternoon last, and examined the native children. There were 21 children present out of 29 on the roll. He expressed himself pleased with the progress evinced, and authorised the distribution of prizes to those children who most regularly attended. The writing at the school was found to be particularly good.

Mr E. GK Norris, the Honorary Secretary to the Tauranga branch of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, has handed us the following telegram received by him from the President of the Society : “December 18.—E. Q-. Norris, Tauranga.—We send two hundred salmon fry by next Rowona. Send responsible person to take charge hero. Put all in one shingly stream ; no sheer falls of more than five feet must exist between spot chosen and salt water. —J. 0, Fibth.” Mr Norris informs us that advantage will be taken of the opportunity thus afforded of introducing salmon into the Tauranga streams, and that some responsible person will be sent to Auckland to bring down the fry, which when it arrives in Tauranga will be put in the Aongutote River. Wo ago given to understand that the expenses incidental to bringing the fry from Auckland will be met by private subscription. We sincerely trust that ia this instance the disinterested labors of the gentle man who watches over the interests of the society in Tauranga may be rewarded with success.
