CHURCH SERVICES.
TO Till EDITOR. Sir,—-'' The spirit of the times shall teach me speed ’, is jour motto, in connection with which let us look at the humiliating spectacle of ret rogation disp'aycd in St. Pani’s Church, Auckland, laet week, of 1 piscnpalian priests marching to ami fro to the toll, strains of music, ami prayers sang in monotone. 1 have heard of prayers being whistled ; this I suppose is the prelude. Then from Europe comes the report of divines of all creeds, met for the express purpose of explaining away dogmas that preclude unity of worship. 1 am not a scientist, but have read of certain chemical substances that when amalgamated dissolve and leave nothing behind. This may be the result of the consultation of the advanced theologians of tlm age and the “ spirit of the times.'”—! am, &c., Observer.
