MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Committee of the above Institute took place in the Institute on Friday evening last. Present: C. N. Roberts (Vice-Pre-sident), and Messrs Bodell, Burrows, Gray, Smith, and the Honorary Secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting w r ere read and confirmed. Permission was granted to Mr T. D. Wrigley to have the use of the Institute Reserve for a term of three years on condition that he put a substantial fence round the same, he to hand the same over at any time the Institute might require the site for building purposes; if within three years, a proportionate amount to be allowed him for the fence. The Entertainment Committee reported the gross receipts of the concert lately held for the benefit of the Institute as follows:—Gross receipts, £24 ss; expenses, £7 19s. Bd., leaving a clear balance to the funds of £l6 os. 4d.

The report was adopted, and the Hon Secretary requested to write to Mesdames Mulgan and Hoyte, thanking them for their kind assistance rendered on the occasion. The Committee decided to take the Weekly News and Daily Herald for the future.

The outstanding liabilities of the Institute were directed to be paid at once, and a sum of £lO was set aside for the purchase of new books. A catalogue to be obtained from Messrs Upton and laid upon the Headingroom table for subscribers to select such books as they might wish

(purchased, and'Messrs Roberts, Nor- | ris. and Dacre were appointed; as I a Book Committee. The advertisement convening the I animal meeting, which will be held I on the 9th November, was directed to be inserted in the Bat of Plenty Times on the 23rd and 30th instant, and on : the 6th prox. Members to bo informed thereby, that unless their subscriptions are paid before that date they will not be entitled to vote.
