The crops are coming in fast, and, with the exception of potatoes, are turning out far better than was expected from the unusually long season of dry weather. Altogether the season. i n an agricultural point of view, may be considered as a thoroughly successful one, and our exports will be not only considerably increased, but highly profitable. Now that that patent humbug the Southern Cross has ceased her imaginary visits to Opotiki, we hail with delight the establishment of a sure and regular communication with Auckland per ketch Fannie Kelly, in command of our well tried and trusty friend, Captain Charles Baker, for which we have to thank the owner (William Kelly, Esq.), whose untiring energy and perseverance in forwarding the interests of the settlement are worthy of the highest praise, not only in reference to his vessels, but in anything and everything that could conduce to the welfare and advancement of Opotiki. William Kelly has been our mainstay and staunchest supporter, and X believe that I sprees the views of all the inhabitants when I say, ‘ May he meet with the most unbounded success in all his undertakings,” which his disinterested generosity and liberality deservedly merits.
