(;?KOK OtTE OWN OOBEESTONDENT ) December 24. A MOST unusual number of robberies have occurred within the precincts of tho township daring tho last week, soma of them of a most audacious character. Among the most serious are ; Mr Apple-ton’s saddle, taken off his horse at a store door.; Captain Smith, several sots of harness and other property out of hia stable ; Mr Bate-, the mainsail of his cutter lying in tho stream; Mr Allen, a whole line full of clothes-to the value of upward of £3 ; Mr Parkinson, a number of sheets and other articles of clothing off a line ; Mr Litchfield, an Inverness cape, &c., off hia saddle j and a number of smaller thefts. Tho police are taking most active stupa for tho discovery- of the perpetrators, and largo rewards are offered by the losers, but as jot nothing has been discovered. December 20. A capital and largely attended Christmas dinner was given to-day at the Royal Hotel by its enterprising proprietor, Mr J. Busst. Tho table, besides being loaded with every luxury and delicacy of the season, was graced by a magnificent round ol roast beef and a Brobadinogian plum pudding. Full Justice was dona to tho viands, and tho evening was passed in general conviviality. December 26. The races are over, and have been tho most successful and well attended of any of the previous meetings. Tho horses were in splendid‘training, and ran well. Tlie handicap hurdle race was a sight only to be equalled in the old country. The d ay passed off pleasantly, and was remarkably fine •throughout. Only one accidentoucurrcd during the irna was to a young lady named Miss O’Keefe, who was violently thrown from her horse, and received some severe bruises, besides spraining her ancle severely. I am glad to say that she is now doing as well as can be expected
