C Concluded. J

Tk Kaita. —Hero also two acres of land have been given by tbo natives, who have also promised £55 towards the school-house. No specific authority has been given yob by the Government, but a general approval of its erection has been received by Mr Brabant. I um not aware what contribution is to bo required from tho natives towards tbo schoolmaster’s salaries in this district; Mr Brabant is of opinion that tho above school will supply all tbo requirements of his district. Lake Taraweba.—l was not aware until I hoard it from Mr Henry Clarko, Civil Commissioner, that he had shortly before established a school at Lake Tarawora. Ho has kindly furnished mo with tho annexed memorandum, by which it appears to be under tho charge of Mr Cowan, whom I understand to bo also a medical man. Mr Chirko found, upon a recent visit, 68 pupils in the school, between the agos of eight and fifteen years, and from their earnestness ha anticipated success. The natives have given 2Jacres and contributed £SO to a school-house, to which the Government has added £IOO, whioh Mr Clarke thinks will bo sufficient for tho purpose. For the present, school is being held in the church, the use of which has been kindly allowed by tho Uev. Mr Spencer, and the natives have given tho use of a house of five rooms for the master. I have directed the usual supply of books, &0,, for tho pupils to bo furnished to Mr Cowan, and have authorised the usual supply of school furniture.
