If the eu.unynm belt is won two years in succession (or three years at intervals) by tho same person, it will become t he absolute property of such winner. 3. In the event of the full number of colonial representatives authorised fur auy district not becoming qualified at the time appointed under these regulations no second competition for choice can bo allowed, 4. GOlfers and men of (ho Militia called out for actual service or for training and exorcise- of the Artillery, Engineer, Rifle, and Naval Volunteer bo reoe, and ot the Armed Constabulary—are eligible to become competitors for the colonial prizes subject to the following rules : 5. No Volunteer will be eligible to compote for the colonial prizes unless he waa an efficient Volunteer for (ho year ending 31st March, 1873. 6. Each company of Volunteers will tiro the under-mentioned match, on their own ranges, under the supervision of an officer of another company (to be arranged by the officers commanding the respective districts), before tho 3iat December, 1873. (1 ) Ranges, 200, 4* O, 500, and 600 yards. (2.) Seven (7) shots at each range. (3 ) Turgots, at 200 yards, 0 x 4 feet; centre, 4 s 2 feet ; bull’s eye, 2xl foot. At 400, 500, and 630 yards, 6xtl feet ; centre, 4 feel; bull’s eye, 3 feofc. (4) Weapon, long or medium muzzle loading or Snider Enfield rids. (Vida tost, Appendix A.) 7. Colonial representatives for tho colonial prizes for Infantry will not, bo eligible to compete for district prizes (or tho Cavalry colonial prizes) ; but any qualified colonial representative may elect to fir o for tho district prizes instead of tho colonial prizes, in which case the next highest scorer in the district (being himself duly qualified) will bo tho colonial representative: 11. The cost of a saloon cabin passage to and from the place appointed will be allowed to tho representatives mentioned in rule 8. 12. In the event of there being a surplus of qualified men in some districts, and not tho authorised numbers in others, tho vacunoies will be filled out of the surplus according to merit; and should there still be a surplus of qualified men they will bo permitted to fire for the colonial prizes on presenting themselves on the ground, furnished with a a certificate from tbo officer commanding the district to which they belong, that they are duly qualified according to rule 8 ; but it mut bo distinctly understood that the Government will not provide them with passages or incur any expense whatever on tboic account. All such competitors will however bo debarred from competing for tho district prizes.
