TAURANGA JOCKEY CLUB.

Ik accordance with announcement, a meeting of the members of the Tauranga Jockey Club was held at the Masonic Hotel on Saturday night to receive the report of the Provisional Committee and for the trahaaction of general business. Mr Edgcumbe, as chairman of the committee, stated that telegrams had been sent to Mr Kellv and Mr John Williamson, mSS,’ requesting those gentlemen io see Dr Pollen and take steps to prevent reserve being privately disposed of. Mr Williamson had replied thereto as follows :—Eace-course will not be sold. I have seen Dr Pollen and Mr O’Rorke on subject. The reserve will be kept for purpose it was sat apart. Mr Kelly had not at present vouchsafed an answer.

Mr F. George proposed, and it vms duly seconded, “ That a vote of thanks be conveyed to Mr Williamson for his courtesy and attention.” ♦ Carried unanimously, Mr Edgcumbe then read the list of gentlemen desirous of becoming members of the Club, which amounted to 33, representing £66. He considered they had made a most satisfactory start, and hoped the endeavours of the committee in the matter would be satisfactory. Mr Edgcumbe hereupon vacated the chair, and Captain Norris occupied the post of honour. The report of the committee was unanimously adopted. TRUSTEES. The Chairman explained that the first business before the meeting was to elect three trustees to take over the race-course reserve from the General Government in trust for the public. The election of trustees was then proceeded with. Four gentlemen were nominated, namely —Messrs Norris, Morris, Edgcumbe, and Harvey. The ballot having been taken, Messrs Norris, Morris, and Edgcumbe were declared duly elected, KAME OP CXUB. Mr Edgcumbe proposed, and Mr Asher seconded, “That the Club be called the Tauranga Jockey Club, and that the rules be the same as the Auckland Club.”

Mr McDonald moved, as an amendment, That the rules be according to those of the Newmarket Club.”

The amendment, finding no seconder, lapsed, and the original motion was carried.

THE PATE ON. Mr Edgcumbe proposed, Mr A. Anderson seconded, and it was carried unanimously, “ That his Excellency Sir James Ferguson bo asked to become Patkon of the Club.” THE HONORARY SECRETARY. Mr Xjewis Samuels was unanimously elected permanent honorary secretary. 9 '1 he Chairman, in congratulating the meeting upon the appointment, paid Mr Samuels a high tribute of praise for the manner iu which bo invariably fulfilled the duties of treasurer and secretary.

THE STEWARDS. The meeting then proceeded to elect stewards for the next meeting. The following gentlemen were nominated :—Messrs Hannon, Morris, Gat' diner, Warbrick, Ellis, Hurrowes, Edgcumbe, Bodell, B, Hill, and Penny. The ballot being taken, the following gentlemen were chosen: G. Ellis (t 6), Morris (15), Edgcumbe (13), Han non

(11), Penny (9). Mr Hill tied Mr Penny, but retired in favour of the latter, SUBSCRIPTIONS. It was proposed by Mr Edgcumbe, and seconded by Mr Morrison, “That all subscriptions be collected by Ist October.” Mr Penny said that he knew of several persons who bad put their name on the list of membership on the understanding that the money would not become due until about a month previous to the races, and he would therefore move, as an amendment, “ That half th© subscriptions only be collected by tbe date mentioned.” Mr Roger Hill seconded the amendment, and it was carried by a large majority. THE NEXT EACH MEETING. After some discussion, it was decided to hold the next race meeting on the new course on or about ten days after the Auckland January Meet. A vote of thanks to Captain Norris, for bis courtesy in the chair, brought the proceedings to a highly satisfactory termination.
