One Million Loan for Auckland.
proposed Public Works in the Bay of Plenty.
We are indebted to the courtesy of Mr John Sheehan, MHB, for the following important telegram received from Wellington lr t night:— Wellington, Tuesday Evening. At special meeting of Auckland members held to-day, Mr Gillie j and Mr Sheehan submitted proposition for A. loan for immigration special settlement, purchase of native lands ; branch railways to Waiuku, Wairoa, and Waikato districts ; harbour and reclamation works at Manakau, Grahamstowo, Bat of Plentt, and Poverty Bay; improvement of navigation Thames river, reclamation of land at Grabamstown, fcblio wobhs Tahkanoa. and Poverty Bay j new ho-pital and gaol, Auckland, and addit on Lunatic Asylum ; new slaughterhouse, edac .t’on and scb. .1 buildings, and steam services. The to 1 of proposed expenditure is one million pounds. The propos 1 is approv d of unanimously. With the application for loan a demand will be made for confiscated lauds.
Applications for loans are being trade by other provinces. Taranaki and Wellington are moving in reference to confiscated lands. All Auckland matters were discussed and adjourned. The House is expected to be fully attended by Wednesday nest. Government is said to be working bard to finish session in two months.
