FLOUR MILL COMPANY

A meeting of gentlemen interested in forming a company for the erection of a flour mill near Tauranga was held on Saturday evening, at the Tauranga Hotel. Captain Skeet occupied the chair, and in a few brief but suitable remarks stated the object for which the meeting had been convened, viz., to secure a site and erect a flour mill in the district, to be worked by water power. Tho progress of agriculture in the Tauranga district, more especially with regard to the cultivation of wheat, necessitated the erection of a flour mill. The advantages of having wheat ground on the spot would be apparent to everyone. The capital would be confined to the district, and the pries of flour considerably reduced. At tho same time the mill would offer inducements to the small proprietor to grow sufficient grain for home consumption. If the mill was erected by a local company it would be co-operative, and could not fail to pay a good per centage upon the outlay, whilst the working expenses would be small. Me thought a flour mill would prove of immense advantage to the district, and ho hoped to see the project carried out. A conversational discussion then ensued, in which Captains Tanks and Skect, and Messrs. Earl, Lundon, Bill, Jordan, R. Kirk, and Samuels, took the most active part. Mr Lundon then proposed, and Mr Earl seconded, “ That this meeting do consider a flour mill necessary for Tauranga.” (Carried). Mr Lundon proposed, and Mr Earl seconded, “ That a committee be appointed to gain necessary information relative to the cost of erection, and working of a mill.” (Carried). The following gentlemen were then appointed to act as a committee :—Captains Skeet and Tanks, Messrs Stephen Earl, Lundon, and Robert Kirk. Mr Jordan proposed, and Mr Kirk seconded, “ That tho committee be requested to bring up their report this day fortnight.” After the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman, the meeting separated, A committee meeting was afterwards held, and plans adopted for gaining the necessary informa - on.
