Ladies didn’t dye their hair—Dames, I ask your pardon—■ All the pinks they used to wear Grow in Nature’s garden. Bliss of calm connubial life Seemed no wild chimera In the simple, loving wife Of the Golden Era. Boots piped spontaneous Like the larks and linnets; Sermons—happy, happy days ! Lasted just ton minutes. In the Golden Era—yes, In the Golden Era ; For the date you mustn’t press, In the Golden Era. In that blissful golden age — This of all is oddest—• Costume, oven on the stage. Sober was and modesfc. Higher in tho neck, you know' ; To the ankle nearer— Decency was quite tho go In tho Golden Era. Fleas, and creatures still more dread, Causing pangs severer, Didn’t share the traveller's bed In the Golden Era.
