TO CONTRIBUTORS
Here are some of the chief rules of the Voung Folks' Budget, l'or the benefit of would-be contributors and new and old Sunbeams. All boys and girls under 18 years of age, whether members or not, may enter for competitions and send in items for publication. Short stories, poems, drawings, jokes, riddles, puzzles, interesting news paragraphs, and various kinds of handicraft hints are welcomed. Points certificates and, in certain cases, money prizes, are awarded for published work.
Exceptionally good original work merits four points, and three points are awarded for other original contributions. Twopoint and one-point certificates are sent out for small items and copied work.
When 25 points are gained, the certificates should be sent in to this office, and a half-crown postal note will be sent out as a prize. Ihree points are allowed for a birthday in the year in which you have gained your 25 points; that means that wnen you have won 22 points, and if you have had a birthday that year, you may send your certificates in. Each month a half-crown prize Is awarded for the best short story received. Stories must contain not more than 600 words.
A word about drawings. It is still possible to publish them occasionally, but they must be in Indian ink and not too large. With drawings, as with all contributions, original work is better than copied, and items should always be marked clearly "original" or "copied."
Write on one slae of the paper only, and state clearly your name, age and address. Address contributions to Peter Pan, c/o Star Office, Shortland Street, Auckland, C.l.
Boys and girls who wish to become members of the Peter Pan Club may send in their names, ages and addresses, and they will be enrolled and certificates of membership will be sent them. Special badges for club members were formerly obtainable, but owing to war conditions it is not possible to get the metal to make them now. Cut out these rules and keep them handy somewhere, boys and girls. Then your contributions will always start oil on the right foot!
