LEAGUE AND HOCKEY GAMES TO-MORROW
Strong teams have been chosen for the representative match between the Pakeha and Maori teams, which will be the Auckland Rugby League's chief attraction at Carlaw Park to-morrow afternoon. In the Pakeha team, Magtll (Richmond), who will be at full-back, is a player who has been showing good form In recent matches. The wings will be Kinney, the speedy young Richmond player, and Nurse, of Ponsonby, who for several seasons has been recognised as one of the best wings. Kay (Ponsonby) and A. Donovan (City-Otahuhu) should provide a thrustful five-eighth line,' to connect with a dashing centre in McGregor (Richmond colt). C. Williams (Richmond) will be half-back.
The forwards are E. Donovan and N. Johnson (City-Otahuhu), Rutherford and McLeod (Marist-Shore), L. Davis (Richmond) and Hull (Ponsonby). It is a well-balanced pack. Rutherford has been hooking well this season, and Hull has quickly established himself as one of the best hard-working forwards in the code. The Maori side will be largely drawn from the Manukau team, which won the League championship and Victory trophy. It will have R. Martin, who is considered the best League full-back In Auckland. The other backs will be selected from Chase, Butler, Hemi, Murray, Fleet, Nikaere, Major and Rapana. All are from Manukau with the exception of Rapana. who has been showing good form at full-back for Ponsonby. The forwards will be selected from Watene. Te Tai, Rlrinui, Thompson, Shilton (all of Manukau), Sullivan (Ponsonby), Tristram (Newton-Mount Albert) and Meredith (Marist-Shore).
The Maori pack will be fast and heavy and will be supported by a back division, which should be able to combine and give good service. Tank Brigade Seeks Revenge At Sarawia Reserve the New Zealand Tank Brigade will make its second appearance against the Auckland hockey representative side, and a close contest is expected. In the first meeting Auckland ran up a two-goal lead in the first spell, and the "Tanks" managed to hold the home eleven to that score till the final whistle. Although the visiting team for to-mor-row has not yet been announced, there will be some alterations in the personnel. On the other hand, several prominent players were not available for the first encounter, and they are likely to be included In an endeavour to avenge the Brigade's defeat on June 6. In the Auckland team there have been three alterations. I. Kelsey and J. Dunning replace C. Blrkett and K. Clements in the half-line, while N. Wyatt succeeds M. Larsen on the left wing. Wyatt has been a prolific scorer for the Auckland Grammar School this season. He and G. Davies (who retains his position at inside right) are among the few players who have gained provincial representative honours while still at college. The Auckland team will be:—T. Dowling, J. Buchan, S. Wood, R. Stewart, I. Kelsey, J. Dunning, J. Horspool, G. Davies, H. Cooper, W. Smiler, N. Wyatt. Reserves: T. Roberts, S. Cowperthwa te. The Devonport Shield matches will be played at Fowlds and Walker Parks. As three new teams from the Services have entered, it has been necessary to run tne competition in two sections, each with six teams participating.
