MONTE CRISTO NOW IN TAKANINI STABLE
FOXOLA TO RESUME SHORTLY
Monte Cristo is now a member of T. F. Verner's stable at Takanini. Monte Cristo, acknowledged one of the best of Bronze Eagle's progeny to race so far, was taken to Australia last autumn, but the trip did not prove as profitable as expected.. Having had a spell in the interim, he should again be ready to show his quality in the new season. Tweedsbuir, about which big things were heard last season, has rejoined P. E. Pope's establishment. He has been hacked about for the last couple of months, and should come to hand fairly quickly. Tweedsmuir is an attractive son of Mr. Standfast, and it is generally thought that he will be seen to better advantage at an advanced age in view of his size and conformation. Anopheles, which was spelled after the winter meeting, has also returned to this stable. Route March has returned to work in a nice state for his future preparation. One with brilliant capabilities, Route March's chances next term may to some extent be affected by his position in the handicaps, but he is a class performer which would be hard to keep out of any sprint event.
Beau Vaais looks bright and healthy, and will be ready for the spring programme. A consistent two-year-old last season, Beau Vaals is selected as one likely to play a part in the decision of some of the spring classics, although it is generally conceded that nis efforts of last season stamped him more as a sprinter than that of a stayer. Foxola is to resume next month. One °f . the most consistent and courageous fillies to race last term, Foxola's future should continue to prove profitable. Egyptian Lady is the name bestowed on the Oration—Miss Egypt filly in T. \ erner's stable, while Sweet Biscuit is the name claimed for Classform's halfsister by Broiefort in P. R. Pope's stable. Both fillies are doing very nicely, but of the pair Egyptian Lady is more forward, and is the stamp of a filly likely to show early speed.
Owner L#. G. Abel, trainer C. Morse and caretaker H. B. Wallen have all been inmates of hospital during recent weeks, but latest reports are that all are making good progress towards recovery. I)ash o' Dink, one of last season's early winners, has rejoined F. Smith's stable. Of small conformation, Dash o' Dink did not train on after his Avondale victory in the spring, but has furnished in the interim, and his future may be more hopefully regarded. Miss Gay is now in active work after her spell. She raced consistently during the season, but suffered a lapse in the Great Northern Oaks after having shown encouraging form as a lead up to that event. Despite this failure, there is still a disposition to favour her chances of succeeding in a handicap event during the new season.
One earmarked for early attention in spring sprint events is the speedster Sleepy Fox. With three-year-olds always a consideration in this type of event in the early spring. Sleepy Fox is one which will be remembered for his brilliancy, and he has only to train on to earn more than his share.
Golden Valley and Ellse are two hacks being prepared for the meeting at Paeroa on Saturday week, and both are making satisfactory progress. Golden Valley's beginning ability will be an asset to her on this course if she regains form quickly enough in the interim. Elise has rarely looked better, and will be In the right order to do herself justice.
