PATROLS RESTRICTED
CLOSE WATCH OX ENEMY
N.Z.E.F. Official War Correspondent
WESTERN DESERT, July 26
An occasional interchange of artillery fire is all to break the quiet of another morning. During the past few days the New Zealanders have been far from idle, improving their positions while still keeping a close watch for any move bv the enemy. With the moon almost at full, patrol activity has been restricted, and it has been impossible for raiding parties to operate. Enemy air activity has been on a much reduced scale—a welcome break for the troops after the strenuous fighting. At night our bombers are heard overhead hour after hour and frequently they can be seen in the moonlight. A strong wind has raised great clouds of dust and visibility this morning was fast being reduced.
