HELP GATHER HARVEST
BRITISH NAVAL RATINGS British Official Wireless Rec. noon. RUGBY, July 29. "Never before in our history hag the gathering of the harvest been of such vital importance," the Com-mander-in-Chief of Portsmouth states in a general order announcing that all naval ratings available will be sent to help gather the harvest. The admiral's order referred to the greatly increased acreage under crop (a 500,000 acres increase) and the withdrawal of agricultural workers to supply the needs of the forces in other fields.
The announcement by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Hudson, that Britain is now growing two-thirds of her own food, has been the subject of favourable comment in the Press. The Times states that food production has a bearing on strategy, as every extension of land theatres in the war causes corresponding modifications of food policy.
