FERTILISER' SUPPLY
NEED FOR CONSERVATION
(0.c.) WHANGAREI, this day. Reporting on the Dominion conference with the Minister of Primary Production for War Purposes, Mr. fojf o "- a delegate, Mr. H. W. James, told the Whangarei Primary Production Council last night of the necessity for conserving the small fertiliser supply available. The developing of lime works and the using of farm manure was stressed.
He said he heard privately of the discovery of new phosphate deposits. Men released from the army who were not doing farm work should again be called up and their names submitted to the Production Council. Mr. Murdoch said there would be difficulty in tracing such cases.
An appeal for local farmers to grow potatoes is to be launched under a new scheme. Primary Production Councils can employ fulltime organisers at £400 plus £200 expenses per annum. Organisers and councillors will receive petrol, travelling expenses and tyres, while supplies last. Mr. C. P. Butler was appointed secretary, the question of an office for the organiser being deferred.
