HEAVY DOWNPOUR
OVER TWO INCHES OP RAIN
Heavy rain set in in Auckland yesterday afternoon after intermittent showers in the morning and continued throughout the night. It was particularly heavy in the early hours of the morning. Rainfall for the 24 hours ended at 11 o'clock was 2.38 inches. The barometer, which dropped to 29.47 at 10 o'clock last night had risen to 29.57, and there were indications of improvement in the weather this morning. The wind had changed from sou-sou-west to east-nor'east.
There have been no reports of flooding on the railway lines in the Auckland district. Hoteo, near Warkworth, has been the frequent scene of floods in past years, but since the shifting of the willows from the creeks, the trouble in this neighbourhood has ceased.
