CHURCH UNION
The proposed basis of union between the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches was discussed at the Auckland East Methodist Circuit meeting, the Rev. F. Copeland presiding. The opinion was freely expressed that the matter had been placed before the Church courts before they were efficiently educated to vote. A resolution was passed unanimously favouring Church union, but on a more liberal basis than that proposed. Several amendments were passed indicating certain ways in which the proposed basis of union might be amended to find acceptability among the Methodists.
The ballot resulted as under: For the proposed basis of union, 2; for the proposed basis with amendments, 41; against the proposed basis, 27.
