COAL OUTPUT
HUNTLY CONFERENCE
ALL PARTIES TO CO-OPERATE
(0.C.) HUNTLY, this day. A conference of representatives of coal owners and miners was held at Huntly to-day, and was addressed by the Minister of Mines, Mr. Webb, and the Minister of Transport, Mr. Semple, on the need for a greater output of coal. Mr. Webb said that coal and men were available, sufficient former miners having been withdrawn from the army, and the only question that remained was the provision of accommodation. Arrangements had been made for the necessary materials and carpenters. Mr. Webb urged the conference to appoint a coal production council for the area and a pit committee for each mine. All parties agreed to do all in their power to facilitate the erection of nouses and agreed to the conditions outlined. The appointment of a council and pit committee was approved. Details were then discussed in committee.
