MEN OVERSEAS

TWO COMMISSIONS GAINED

According to advice received bv the Rev. E. T. and Mrs. Olds, of Pitt Street Methodist Church, their son, David Leonard Olds, aged 21, has been commissioned in the Fleet Air Arm. Sub-Lieutenant Olds was educated at Auckland Grammar School and Waitaki Boys' High School, where he was runner-up in the school shooting championship. He left for Britain in July, 1941, and Underwent four months' training at H.M.S. Vincent before proceeding to the United States.

According to advice received by Mrs. Brian Blake, of Lynch Street, Point Chevalier, her husband has been commissioned in the R.N.Z.V.R. He was educated at Auckland Grammar School, and later took up commercial art work. He was a keen yachtsman. Leaving New Zealand in April, 1941, Sub-Lieutenant Blake received his preliminary training at H.M.S. Ganges and served the most part of his sea time as coxswain on a motor torpedo boat.

Advice has been received by Mrs. S. Clark, of 2, Heke Street, Ponsonby that her son, Warren Officer (II.) Horace S. Clark, has been reported missing in the Middle East. Warrant Officer Clark was born in WoodhilL North Auckland, and was educated at Napier Street School and Seddon Memorial Technical College.

The parents of Private Cecil "Bill" Newby, Mr. and Mrs. F. Newby, of Abbotsford Terrace, Devonport, have received advice that he has been posted as missing. Private Newby was educated at Devonport School and Seddon Memorial Technical College, and was a member of the Mount Eden Hockey Club.
