TRANSPORT ESTIMATES
INCREASES OVER LAST YEAR
Increases over last year's expenditure were shown in the estimates for the year which will end March 31, 1943, as presented at the meeting of the Auckland Transport Board this morning. The running costs were estimated at £350,524, the increase being approximately £25,000. This will provide for holiday, race, sports and special traffic needs, also the cost of uniforms, tickets and stores.
For the maintenance of rail r6utes and repairs, £25,245 was allowed, last year's expenditure being £19,975. The report 6tated that owing to the shortage of essential materials, some works would have to be postponed. Every endeavour was being made to use any life left in worn rails, and where possible, the changing over rails on some of the little used sections of the tracks might be & n.
