TRAM CONCESSIONS
HOME GUARD REQUEST
FREE PASSES FOR AMPUTEES
A request from Captain C. J. M. Clark, Remuera Battalion of the Home Guard, for a Sunday tramway concession for any two Home Guardsmen travelling together was considered by the Auckland Transport Board this morning. Captain Clark stated that his unit was specially affected as it was composed of specialists drawn from all parts of the city and suburbs.
In the past private cars or army transport had been used, but if this was cut down in response to the appeal for a reduction of petrol and rubber, it would throw a heavy burden on men who had to make several changes on tram routes. The board decided to find out how many Home Guardsmen used the trams on Sundays and refer the matter to the manager for report. An application for free tram passes for amputees of the last war and the present war was considered. The application was made by the Auckland War Amputees' Association. It was decided that the association be advised to make application through the Returned Services' Association or the Ex-servicemen's Association, which were the responsible bodies.
