AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP

Rec. 1 p.m. CALCUTTA, July 24. The American Volunteer Group has definitely shot down 299 planes. Twenty-four of the Group's total of 75 pilots have either been killed or captured. A New Delhi air communique states that R.A.F. bombers attacked Japanese river craft off the Arakan coast yesterday. Steamers on the Kaladan River, north of Akyab, were also bombed. On the Mayu River two steamers were attacked, one received two direct hits in midstream. All our aircraft returned safely.
