TAXI DRIVER'S OFFENCE
"The nature of this offence is such that you will go to prison. You were put in a position of trust and you abused it," said Mr. J. H. Luxford. S.M., to Ernest Edward Albert Tier, who appeared on summons in the Police Court to-day and pleaded guilty to a charge of fraudulently omitting to account to Phyllis Mabel Jameson for £15 19/6, thereeby committing theft. Detective-Sergeant Trethewey said Tier had been employed driving a taxi and earned about £7 per week. After complainant's husband entered camp the offence was committed. Restitution in full had been made. Appearing for defendant, Mr. Spence said Tier had been in debt, and the accumulation of money had tempted him. Tier was sentenced to four months' imprisonment with hard labour.
