EPSOM ATTRACTION

World Champion Against Sprinters

ACCEPTORS AND PROSPECTS

Fastest sprinters in the province will meet the two-mile world's race-winning record holder, Josedale Grattan, in the United Nations' Handicap at Alexandra Park to-morrow, when he will be called upon to concede them starts ranging from 24 yards to 48 yards over a mile. It should be a race worth going a long way to see, as the American-bred stallion is reported to be in fine condition, and although the task set him is a severe one, It is by no means insuperable for a horse of his class.

The occasion is the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting in aid of the 1942 AllPurposes War Relief Fund, and the fixture has attracted well-balanced fields in the eight races. The track will be heavy, but if the weather is fine there should be a large attendance, for the sport is invariably assured of enthusiastic support.

Great interest is sure to be taken in the appearance of the two-year-olds, Hilda Potts and Karnak, which are raced in partnership by Dr. M. G. Pezaro and Mr. E. G. Bridgens, the president of the club. When she was last seen In action Hilda Potts, a very shapely filly by Jack Potts from Lady Gertrude, was almost certainly deprived of victory in the Great Northern Trotting Stakes by a flock of seagulls rising suddenly from beneath her hoofs, thus causing her to swerve completely round, the while the rest of the field went merrily on Its way. Karnak recently finished a good second to Captain Morant in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, and she was regarded by some keen students as unlucky to lose first place. Betting will be win and place, and the following horses are expected to play their part well:—

Navy Handicap—Home Guard, Kaipaki Bill, Win Thru-Golden Journey bracket. Air Force Handicap (first division): Hilda Potts. Miss Lola - Shining Link - Key Dillon bracket.
