STATEMENT BY MINISTER TASMANIA* CONTRADICTION (0.C.) HAMILTON, this day. With regard to the petition from Hobart praying for a pardon for Cyril Hugh Richard Humphrys, recently extradited from Tasmania, the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mason, is reported to have said: '"Humphrys is reported to have informed the Court in Tasmania that he wished to enlist and, when asked why he had not done so in New Zealand, stated he was working in a munitions shop." On receipt of this information the legal firm which acted for Humphrys in Hobart has cabled "No such statement made at any stage in proceedings."
