"AMAZING EFFORT"

Greek Leader's View Of U.S.A. And Canada SUFFERINGS IN GREECE British Official Wireless. Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY, July 21. Expressing admiration of the amazing military effort and output of the United States and Canada, the Greek Prime Minister, M. Tsouderos, who, with King George of the Hellenes, has just returned to London after visiting Egypt, Palestine, Syria, the United States and Canada, said tha* anybody seeing this activity could have no doubt of the outcome of this war. Referring to the activities of the Greek Navy, M. Tsouderos, said it had been carrying on the fight ever since going to Crete after the occupation of Greece, and had been augmented by 10 ships, four destroyers, four corvettes and two others, made over to Greece by Britain. He spoke scathingly of the German attitude towards the food situa- ] tion in Greece, stating that, although i the situation now had slightly improved, during the winter deaths in Athens, Piraeus and the islands reached the terrible figure of 1000 daily from sheer starvation. The recent situation in Athens could be best judged from the fact that big lorries during the winter had to be sent daily through the city gathering up coroses of people who had died from starvation and were lying in the streets, and taking others from houses, all to be buried in common graves.
