FLORA AND FAUNA

IN CENTENNIAL PARK QUESTION OF PROTECTION The Auckland Centennial Memorial Park Board, at its annual meeting yesterday afternoon, received a letter from the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum, suggesting that a committee of suitable persons should be set up to advise the board on technical matters connected with the protection and preservation of the flora and fauna of the park. It was suggested that the board should consider the high qualities for membership of the committee of Dr. Gilbert Archey, the director, Miss L. M. Cranwell, botanist to the museum, and of acting-Professor T. L. Lancaster, associate professor of botany at the Auckland University College. The chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum. said it was a very sensible proposal, and on his motion it was decided to set up a forest botany committee, consisting of the three representatives named by the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum and two members of the board, Messrs. A. D. Mead and F. A. Jarrett.
