CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
Council of Christian Women. The president, Mrs. Alexander Hodee presided at the quarterly meeting! The speaker for the afternoon was the Rev. J. C. Young, who gave an address on the "Sanctity of Marriage" It was reported at the meeting that a deputation of five had waited on the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C Allum, on the subject of the downward trend of moral behaviour in the city.
New Women's Club.—The president, Mrs. W. B. Darlow, presided at the last meeting. The programme was provided by club members. Mrs Stewart spoke on the life and poetry of Robert Burns. Mrs. Strand gave an account of the people, customs administration and geographical features of Chili. Mrs. Humphreys' contribution was an outline of Jennie Lee's autobiography—"Tomorrow is a New Day." Mr. J. Barr city librarian, explained the origin objects of the proposed Churchill Auction," and made an appeal for the gift of rare books, antiques, etc., to be auctioned for patriotic purposes.
Women's League —The monthly meeting of the Women's League British Israel World Federation, Auckland branch, was presided over Mrs. Walker in the absence of Mrs. Cranston. The subject for the afternoon was the "Stone of Destiny." Papers were given by Mrs. Swan, Mrs. Walker and Miss Roget. Penwomen's Club.—Ajt the last meeting the Rev. Jasper Calder gave a travel talk on his recent visit to America. The president, Mrs. Una Craig, presided. Songs composed by a club member, Mrs. J. O. Masefield were sung by Mrs. Winifred Osborne' A current events discussion presided over by Miss Irene Rutherford was held earlier in the afternoon.
