FOUR ROUNDS

MULLET BEATS PASCO

HEAVY-WEIGHT BOXING BOUT

In decisive fashion. Don Mullett, of Wellington, beat Bill Pasco, of Southland, in the professional heavyweight boxing contest staged, at the Town Hall last evening by the Auckland Boxing Association in its third carnival.

The contest, much to the surprise of a big attendance of spectators, ended abruptly in the fourth round with Pasco knocked out.

Mullett took the ring weighing 14st 41b and Pasco weighed 13st 51b.

When the men stepped out for the first round it was evident that Mullett held the advantage in weight, height and reach.

They started cautiously, with both searching for an opening and firing straight, hard shots when they got to close quarters.

The second round was marked by a lot of in-fighting, but both men were breaking cleanly. Mullett was showing a good repertoire of shots.

The pace was faster in the third round, with Pasco showing cleverness at evasion and letting Mullett carry the fight to him. The round ended with honours even, and it appeared that both men had the twelve round 3' journey in view and were out to make the contest a wearing-down process.

Then came the fatal fourth round. Pasco broke from a clinch and gave ground. Mullett moved quickly in pursuit and with a beautifully-timed hard right hook sent Pasco down for four.

Pasco appeared shaken as he got up I and covered up as Mullett came at him. As they closed. Mullett uppercut his opponent hard and Pasco went down for six. The Southland man struggled to his feet but was now an easy and widely-open target. Mullett moved straight in and sent in a straight left and right. Pasco reeled, fell, and lay motionless for the full count. The referee was Mr. H. W. Brien and the judges Messrs. G. Bush and E. C. Armishaw. Amateur Contests Earlier in the evening the spectators had good entertainment with the amateur portion of the programme, the bouts being of a spirited nature and a good standard was shown. Broadhead, 8.1, and D. Godward, 8.6, drew.
