STEPPING, OUT FOR THE NEW SEASON
A little galloping was undertaken at Taknnini on Saturday, some youngsters liciiv; allowed to stride along in their work, while some others intended for racing at the Thames meeting at Paeroa newt month were allotted brighter tasks.
The yearlings Hayduck and Good Hay, associated in a sprint over a furlong in the back straight, recorded 12 2-ss, and hit out in approved style for a first sprint. Jlayduk shaped very well and promises to creditably represent Salove, a new sire. An Oration—Miss Kgypt filly and a Verineer—Aureola gelding were sent two furlongs, the Oration filly getting the better of the start and leading her companion by two lengths at the end In 25 4-os. • Representative and Royal Merit strode over the Inst three furlongs of their task in 41 :j-ss, the fl/st-named doing his work in effortless manner and giving the impression that he will be well forward for early spring racing. Ascot Bloom worked solidly over a mile and a half, sprinting the last halfmile easily in 555, while Proud Fox hit out in dashing style with Lovaals over half a mile in 5Li .'l-.js. Proud Fox is coming to hand quickly and will probably make a reappearance at Paeroa. Lord Chancellor had the measure of JefT In a half mile in Quite a number of horses are resuming after winter respites, and notable among those who are in nice order for another preparation are Route March, Reau Vaals, Dash o' IJink and Kentish, four of F. Smith's team.
