CALL TO WOMEN
FOR ARMED FORCES MINISTER URGES RESPONSE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Friday "The response to the urgent national call to women for suitable service in the armed forces has not been nearly as good as it should," said the Minister of National Service, Mr. Broadfoot, to-night. "I do not believe this is due to indifference or apathy among the thousands of women concerned, but rather to a lack of appreciation of the urgency of the need. "It cannot be emphasised too strongly that the appeal was not made before it was due," added the Minister. "The plain stark truth is that New Zealand's share in the great war effort will require the recruiting of many thousands ot women this year for various duties in the Navy, Army and Air Force. "I feel confident that as soon as women appreciate the urgency of this national appeal, they will not shirk their bounden duty.'
