NEW YORK SEARCH
Parachutes Reported Near Mr. Roosevelt's Home
ARMY AND POIiICE ACTIVE
Rec. 1.30 p.m. NEW YORK, July 17
Army and State police are making a widespread search in the Rhinebeck district of New York State after a report that several parachutes were seen descending in the area late yesterday afternoon. The Rhinebeck district is not far from Hvde Park, where President Roosevelt has his country home. The police broadcast an alarm, ordering patrols along the Hudson River to halt all cars and check thoroughly. The army stated that so far there is no confirmation of the report, and as far as the army knew there was no opportunity for parachutists to land. A Baltimore message says the Federal Bureau of Investigation has announced the arrest of Baron von Schoenermarck, a native of Heidelberg, Germany, and a radio announcer and news commentator, at Frederick. Maryland. It was alleged that he falsely assumed the name of Brandon Roberts, under which he was employed, and represented himself -as a United States citizen. Schoenermarck denied representing citizenship.
