The first annual meeting of the English Speaking Union of New Zealand was held last night and presided over by Canon R. G. Coats.
The report, presented by the secretary, Miss A. The Auckland branch, continued the report, had had a most successful year with an increasing membership. An ambitious programme had been planned for the coming year, it being decided to feature the monthly luncheons which had proved an outstanding success. Archbishop Averill regretfullv tended his resignation and Canon Coats was elected president in his place. The new committee included the election of Mr. J. R. Elsbury as chairman, Mr. B. R. Perry, treasurer and Miss Quayle re-elected as secretary.
