FOR JAM-MAKING
SUPPLY OF SUGAR
COUPONS FOR AUGUST
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Provision will be made for a limited supply of sugar to housewives who wish to make jam and marmalade at this season. Announcing this to-night, the Rationing Controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas, said the August quota of sugar which would normally be available on August 1 may be purchased in whole or in part on the surrender of coupons at any time after July 15 by people wishing to make jam or marmalade. On using sugar purchased on the August coupons for this purpose, application may be made for a permit to replace the quantitv so used This permit will be negotiable on or after August 1. but not later than August 31. In this way it will be possible for a maximum of 31b of sugar per person to be used in the next few weeks for making household jams. This allowance, however, will be subtracted in each case from any general issue of sugar which might be made in the main jammaking season.
