CHURCH UNION

At the quarterly meeting of the Auckland Central Circuit of the Methodist Church, held on Monday the union of the Congregational, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches was discussed and the following resolution passed by an overwhelming majority: That this quarterly meeting affirms the principle of Church union and is favourable to the continuation of negotiations to that end.

Resolutions were passed unanimously urging that these negotiations be considered in the meantime along the lines of fuller co-operation wherever possible in worship and work, and especially in the home and Maori mission departments in country areas.

The meeting, voting on the basis of union as drawn up by the committee representing the three churches concerned, declared that while very strongly in favour of the principle of Church union it considered the present basis was not acceptable.
