EMERGENCY MEASURE
AID IN MILKING SHEDS SCHOOL CHILDREN'S ROLE As one means of meeting the progressive difficulty labour shortage in milking sheds, a letter was received by the Auckland Education Board from the Te Kowhai (Frankton) School Committee asking permission to curtail the school luncheon interval by a quarter on an hour so that the school might be closed correspondingly earlier in the afternoon to enable older boys to assist with the afternoon milking, this arrangement to be temporary as an emergency measure. After some discussion, in which several members expressed firm opposition to curtailing the luncheon hour, while others wished to avoid the alternative of pupils losing certain education time at school, it was decided to grant permission as a temporary measure for the pupils concerned to be permitted to leave school earlier in the afternoon, as suggested, no alteration to be made in the luncheon hour.
