SUNDAY PICTURES
PAPAKURA REARRANGEMENT
A notification by the managers of the two picture theatres in Papakura that unless the conditions laid down by the borough council with regard to Sunday screening were withdrawn, no pictures would be shown on Sunday evenings, was received by the Papakura Borough Council. The conditions objected to were that all profits be handed over to the patriotic fund, and that the opening time be 8.30 p.m. The writers stated that permission had been granted in Auckland and other places for normal prices without conditions.
The Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, while taking exception to the attitude adopted by the managers, said the legal and finance committee had discussed the question, and in view of all the circumstances, recommended that the condition be withdrawn re the profits for patriotic purposes and that the time of opening be put forward to 8 p.m. The committee's recommendation Was carried.
