WOMEN TEACHERS

MISS FANNY TAYLOR'S WORK The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Women Teachers' Institute was held in the Unity Hall, Miss E. Casley presiding. The annual report, which was adopted, stressed the debt of gratitude owing to Miss Fanny Taylor for her unceasing efforts on behalf of the women teachers, not only in Auckland, but also throughout the Dominion. It was desired to honour her publicly on her retirement but, owing to the war situation, this was not possible at the moment. The executive had made her a life member of the branch in recognition of her services. The report also stated that, owing to the war, it had been necessary to curtail the activities of the institute in order to allow members to engage in more urgent work. A vote of thanks was accorded Miss B. Carnachan for her representation on the National Council of Women. The election of officers was as follows: —President, Miss E. Casley; vice-presidents, Mrs. H. Piper and Miss H. Ross; secretary and treasurer, Miss E. D. Macdonald; committee, Misses M. Taylor, F. Andrews, M. Bell, R. Kennedy, D. Earl, M. Currie, E. Tierney, C. M. Rains, E. E. A. Paltridge and K. Smith (representing the manual and technical branch).
