FIRM VALUES FOR BEEF
There was a keen demand for ox beef at the Westfield fat stock sales to-day. The yarding was a moderate one, but values were firm. There was also a keen demand for cows and heifers, although the yarding was small. AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS
Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, report on the sale as follows:— Beef.—A moderate entry of ox beef sold under keen competition, and our quotations are firm on those of last week. For a small offering of cows and heifers the demand also was keen, and values improved 1/ per head on late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 37/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 34/ to 36/; ordinary and plain. 30/ to 32/; prime young cow and heifer beef. 29/ to 33/; ordinary cow beef, 21/ to 23/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £14 10/ to £16 5/; heavy prime steers. £12 15/ to £14lighter prime steers. £11 to £12 5/; light prime steers, £10 to £10 15/; small and unfinished steers, £8 to £9 10/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £10 5/ to £11 15/.
